Looking for a room
Does it cost anything?
No. Joining the waitlist and messaging hosts are free.
How does the waitlist work?
Tell us where you'd live, your budget, your move date and your habits. When a room fits, we email it to you. Hosts never see the waitlist, and you can change or delete your details from the link in your email. Join the waitlist.
How do I find rooms where I can smoke inside?
Every room shows where tobacco, vapes and 420 are allowed. On the rooms page, filter by what you need: smoke inside, vape inside, or 420 allowed.
Can I save rooms to look at later?
Yes. Tap Save on any room and it's kept in this browser on your saved rooms page. Nothing is sent to us.
What should I ask at an inspection?
Our moving-in checklist covers the smoking rules, the lease, money, the house and the people.
Listing a room
Does it cost anything to list?
No. Listing a room is free.
How does a room go live?
You fill in the form and confirm your email. A person checks the listing, usually within a day, and it goes live. Messages come to your inbox, and your email address stays hidden until you reply. Our tips for hosts help it fill.
Can I change my listing later?
Yes, from the private link in your email: rent, dates, smoking rules, how it's offered, photos and more. A new headline, description, place or photos are checked by a person before they show. Lost the link? We'll email it again.
Can I fill a room in a house I rent?
Yes, with the landlord's permission where it's needed. Taking over someone's place on a lease explains the bond side in each state.
Can I list a rooming house?
Not yet. If you rent rooms to 4 or more people, the property may be a rooming or boarding house, which has its own rules.
Smoking, vaping and 420
Is 420 legal?
It depends on the state, and a lease or house rules can rule it out anyway. 420 and the law explains the differences.
How do we agree on smoking rules as a house?
Use our free house smoking agreement: you'll get a sign for the smoking spot and an agreement for everyone to sign.
Can smoking rules go further than the lease?
No. Housemates can't agree to anything the lease rules out, so if it says no smoking inside, that's the rule. Checking the lease.
Do you allow drug sales?
No. We remove listings and messages that offer to sell, supply or grow drugs, and block the people who send them. See our terms.
Safety and privacy
How do I avoid scams?
Never pay a bond, rent or holding deposit before you've seen the room and met the people, and get your bond receipt from your state's bond authority. More in our safety tips.
Who sees my details?
Listings show the host's first name only. The waitlist is private. Our privacy page lists everything we keep and for how long.
How do I report a problem?
Every listing has "Report this listing", and every message a host receives has a link to report it. You can also email hello@smokoshare.au.
